My View from Beyond the Wall:
By: Rob Ryan
Welcome to the new Growthhax; version 3.0 some might say. But to appreciate the era you’re entering with us, you should appreciate where we came from.
In late 2015 I had an idea, but was not sure it was a “real problem”. After a few random occurrences, and over 200+ conversations with entrepreneurs, I became convinced that most lacked reliable, accessible mentorship… so I set off to build that with a friend….. a simple service for American small business owners, via a website. V.1.0
I got a tweet in early 2016 from a young man in Tijuana, Mexico inviting me there to speak about entrepreneurship. I didn’t know it at the time, but those speeches to University students, young startup teams and local leaders, gave birth to V.2.0 of Growthhax, a platform for global mentorship . It pivoted my life to this amazing nomadic journey around Latin America. The business unfolded in fits and starts over the next 2 years while we listened to potential clients, learning about this entire institutional industry around “entrepreneurship” in Latin America. Eventually we determined the best path to a sustainable business was helping these institutional organizations to better serve their entrepreneurial communities.
Now it’s February 2019, and I am typing to you from a Starbucks in Guadalajara, Mexico, sharing Growthhax V.3.0. Like the Airbnb startup story of “being 3 guys for 3 years” before they broke through…. we’re grateful, lucky and persistent as ever….. We’re building what our clients tell us they need. We still wake up everyday passionately committed to our mission of Connecting people and their experience around the world.
We hope you enjoy our new website and newsletter where we will share our stories, and those of all the amazing people we meet along this journey.
The Importance of Having a Mentor
By Jason Rosenburg
The old saying goes, “experience is the best teacher”, but what do you do if you don’t have the experience and waiting around to gain it isn’t an option. You find someone who has the experience, tap into their vast knowledge, and learn from them.
To do that, you need a mentor. For new start-ups a mentor can be the difference in failure and success.

We held our first ever Mentor Mashup at Silvestre in Tijuana, Mexico. It was a huge success. We had 14 projects represented that we mashed up with the mentor that would suit their needs. That gave them 20 minutes of one on one time with that mentor where they could ask them questions and get advice. The feedback was great. We learned a lot from our pilot run and you can expect more in the future. Make sure to follow us on social media so you’ll know when these events are coming up, just click the icons below.
